Forgive me whilst I ponder

I was putting together a Keynote presentation this
evening, it included a quote that contained the word
"whilst". Keynote put the red squiggly line
underneath it, indicating that it was either
misspelled or that it wasn't in the dictionary. In
order to double check the spelling, I opened the Mac
OS X Dictionary and it had the word and definition,
whilst.
I
wonder why it is that the Mac OS X dictionary
contains words that are not in the spelling function
of programs from Apple? Don't they utilize the same
dictionary?
